Trailblazers - Mentoring Young Offenders
Trail-Blazers is currently running a recruitment campaign for new mentors to work with the lads in Aylesbury. We would like to ask you for your help. We really desperately need more mentors! Although prison staff or agency staff based in Aylesbury cannot apply to be a mentor, we are sure that you may know other people who would like to have a go a this. Could we ask you to spread the word to family, friends, neighbours and ask them to spread the word to their families, friends, colleagues, employers?
Click here to read a little background to the work we do.
With thanks,

Mentoring Young Offenders
Farewell to Rev Jo Williams
Co-ordinating Chaplain at HMYOI Aylesbury and good friend of the Church on Fairford Leys recently retired from her past as Chaplain of the prison. Jo was chaplain for over six years and is responsible for maintaining a good Chaplaincy Department which was singled out for praise by a recent inspection at the prison. Pictured here, Fred and Jo enjoy a farewell lunch at The Five Elms Public house, Weedon.
Sorry that I look even more of a goon than usual (thought I’d say that before my daughter…)
Zimbabwe Special Appeal
This urgent appeal for those suffering extreme hardship in Zimbabwe raised £408.50. In a letter of thanks we have received from Zimbabwe Victim’s Support Fund it states: “Our Trustees at Hillside Methodist Church in Bulawayo, have accepted responsibility to do what they can to bring aid to some of the most vulnerable people. In total, at the present time, we are making available £9,600 per month for this work to continue and that supports between 4,000 and 4,5000 people. There has been a generous response to the appeal and we are thankful not only for the food it will bring to those who suffer but also for a renewed sense of hope that they need so badly.” Let us continue to remember the people of Zimbabwe in our prayers. Thank you for your generous response.

Pastoral Care
If you know of anyone who would like a house-visit, or is hospitalised, please let Tony Willis or Julie Willis know. Also, if there is anyone who is house-bound or sick who would like their communion at home, please let us know (01296 431934).
Help Needed
The Church on Fairford Leys are seeking to establish a number of teams to develop the various aspects of its life. We begin with teams to develop Pastoral Care, Communications and Fundraising. Can you help?
Pastoral Care team
This newly established team welcomes new members. The purpose of the team is to provide pastoral assistance to members of the church and to the wider community, as appropriate, and to ensure that the church shows the love of God in the way it welcomes visitors and friends, and responds to their needs.
- The team's work is expected to include:
- Visiting the elderly and the sick at home or in hospital
- Offering practical assistance, particularly to the housebound
- Liaison with baptism families
- Marriage preparation
- Welcoming people as they arrive for Sunday services
Please think and pray about this, as it is a very important part of our church. Please contact Fred or Julie Willis if you feel able to join this important ministry team.
Communications Team
- To contribute to our website, our church and parish magazines, our Powerpoint presentations
- To develop new ways of reaching out into the community
If you enjoy using the various communication tools available today, please consider joining a small team to look at ways the church can use them more effectively.
Please contact Rev Fred Ireland or Julie Willis if you are able to help
