Christmas 2005

December 15, 2005

Christmas is a magical season for children and for many adults. It conjures up warm and pleasant memories of their childhood: visits to Santa, decorating the tree; wrapping presents and carol singing;  the stocking bulging with presents on Christmas morning; lots of food; presents given and received; family get-togethers. TV and games. More food.

For others, however, Sad or bad memories are associated with the “season of goodwill” which makes Christmas a season they would prefer to avoid.

Christmas is both a religious festival and a time of “comfort and joy!” where many celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ whilst others just celebrate! For Christians, Christmas is a time to remember the birth of the most remarkable human being ever born. 2000 years after his birth, hundreds of millions people around the world believe he is the Son of God who came to set us free from all that diminishes life and offer to us the gift of eternal life.

Jesus and this teachings have stood the test of time.  Even here on Fairford Leys a church has been built in his name!

Remember the logo outside the church

That is the message of Christmas! We sing a carol:
“Love came down at Christmas
Love all lovely, love divine”

Where God is, there is love. That’s it!

And the birth of this little baby is the reason for all the parties and celebrations. I do hope you will remember why you are raising a glass and sharing meals with family, friend and work colleagues: it’s a time to celebrate God’s coming amongst us, for all that’s good in this world, to remember the less fortunate and …
to celebrate!

I wish you all a happy and joyful Christmas.
